Nordic.JS – The biggest JavaScript Conference in the Nordics
After some years of hiatus due to Covid and other things, Nordic.JS was back and celebrating its 10th anniversary. Short info about Nordic.JS, Nordic.JS is a 2-day conference fully focusing on JavaScript and frontend development. We listened in on speakers talking about their own findings in creating emulations, the future of CSS and ECMAScript but also about AI and what we can create using those tools.
There were a lot of Speeches during that conference so I thought I could go through the ones I enjoyed the most out of them. Let’s start off with Phil Hawksworths talk about the History of Web Technologies. As someone who didn’t look at the history at all, I was amazed by it, learning what the 30 years of JavaScript was behind the scenes with Netscape and Internet Explorer shipping their own versions of it and Sun Microsystems trademark name of JavaScript. Seeing some more important milestones of web development like the first JSON request in 2001 and then the JSLint being released in 2002. There were many more points to present here but I think this is good for this speech.
The next speech I like to talk about is Christophe Porteneuve’s speech about ES2027 and What’s up in that. He talked about TC39 and the stages to get a new function approved by them for release in an upcoming ES release but also about the history and confirmed new functionality coming to ECMAScript. New things coming is how we handle dates in JavaScript with the new Temporal type, we can finally remove things like Moment.js and date-fns, he talked about more new things coming which will definitely make working in javascript more interesting.
I could really keep going about everything that happened during the conference. Some sessions were very relevant and inspiring, others a bit less so for me personally, but all in all, it was a great experience and I learned a lot and hopefully I get to use that new knowledge when working with clients and also in private with my hobby projects. So please, check out all the speeches on Nordic.js official youtube channel if you are interested to learn some more 🙂
